LCS district update March 10, 2026

Lapeer Staff and Families --

As the LCS Board of Education and administration consider how to address the district’s current budget shortfall while staffing our administrative team for next year, we want to make the following announcements about some important changes effective for the 2026-27 school year.

Elementary Building Leadership Adjustments

As elementary building populations continue to decline, we have reached a point in time when we need to examine our building leadership structure at this level. In the past, we have implemented a model of pairing elementary buildings together for a combined model of building leadership. Most recent examples of such a structure include, Hadley-Murphy, Elba-Seaton and Irwin-Schickler. Based on the current level of enrollment in our elementary schools, we are reducing two principal positions and pairing two buildings together for 2026-27.

  • Turrill and Murphy Elementaries will be led by current Murphy principal Stacey Webber

  • Lynch and Schickler Elementaries will be led by current Lynch principal Aneta Lawrence

As we consider potential changes coming in 2027-28, this adjustment allows us a great opportunity for our elementary programs to collaborate more closely making the vision of One Lapeer a reality.  While this change makes strategic and financial sense, it is not without its challenges.  We will maintain building deans of students at each site and members of the central office leadership team will assume a larger role in helping with building management.  We are working hard to make other adjustments allowing for further streamlining of the district’s elementary programming.

District Athletics/LVP/CFI

Last month we announced the departure of long-term District Athletic Director, Shad Spilski. With his resignation, we will restructure his current position as District Athletic Director, principal at the Center for Innovation and director of the Lapeer Virtual Partnership.

  • Austin Green, will assume full-time duties of a newly created District Athletic Supervisor position, shifting from his current LHS Dean of Students and Building Athletic Manager role.

  • Michele McKendry will take on the role of Director of Innovation and provide building leadership to CFI and LVP, as she transitions from her current assignment of Schickler Elementary principal.

  • Dave Rock will transition to the Dean of Students position at Lapeer High School from his role with CFI, taking over Dean responsibilities at LHS. Bob Januzzi will remain as the Dean of Students at CFI.

As a reminder, these changes are in effect for the 2026-27 school year.  We will continue our work relative to the district’s strategic plan which will result in grade level reconfiguration and reorganization of district facilities for the 2027-28 school year.  Staff and community input sessions will be scheduled in the coming months and we look forward to updating everyone on our progress.

We are exceedingly confident in our leadership team and district staff to navigate this changing landscape for our district and especially in the leaders named in this communication who have agreed to accept their new positions with eagerness and professionalism.

BOLT UP!
